What makes food truly healthy? Is it just about calories, or does it go beyond taste, ingredients, nutritional balance and how food supports an active lifestyle?

Meet Deepak Agrawal – Ironman finisher, Super Randonneur, endurance athlete, vegan lifestyle enthusiast and Food Critic at Satvik Salad.

India's First Vegan Ironman & Food Critic

With years of experience in endurance sports, running, cycling and strength training, Deepak brings a unique athlete's perspective to evaluating food. His interest in plant-based nutrition and longevity has shaped his understanding of how everyday food choices influence energy, fitness and overall well-being.

Why an Endurance Athlete Reviews Food

As an endurance athlete, Deepak understands that food is more than something we eat to satisfy hunger. It is an important part of training, recovery and performance.

Having experienced the nutritional demands of long-distance running, cycling and Ironman events, he looks beyond presentation and taste when evaluating a meal.

His food reviews at Satvik Salad focus on five important aspects:

  • Taste & Flavour: Does healthy food deliver an enjoyable eating experience?

  • Ingredient Quality: Are the ingredients fresh and thoughtfully selected?

  • Nutritional Balance: Does the meal offer a sensible balance of protein, carbohydrates, fibre and healthy fats?

  • Preparation: Are cooking methods and dressings aligned with the brand's Satvik philosophy?

  • Athlete Perspective: Can the meal fit into an active lifestyle and support everyday nutritional needs?

From Vegan Living to Mindful Eating

Deepak transitioned to a vegan lifestyle in 2017, which strengthened his interest in plant-based nutrition.

His endurance journey began in 2018 with casual Sunday morning runs. Gradually, running developed into a passion for longer distances, followed by significant achievements in endurance sports.

These experiences helped him appreciate the importance of balanced meals, plant-based protein, complex carbohydrates, hydration and recovery nutrition.

At Satvik Salad, he brings this practical understanding to the food experience, encouraging customers to enjoy meals that combine flavour, convenience and thoughtful nutrition.

What Does Deepak Look for in a Satvik Salad?

For Deepak, a good salad should never be boring or simply a bowl of raw vegetables.

He believes that healthy food should be satisfying, flavourful and thoughtfully prepared.

His evaluation considers:

  • Fresh vegetables and quality ingredients.

  • Wholesome grains, legumes and plant-based proteins.

  • Balanced dressings without unnecessary additives.

  • Interesting textures and flavour combinations.

  • Portion size and overall meal satisfaction.

Whether it is a high-protein bowl, a Mediterranean salad, a millet-based meal or a wholesome wrap, every dish deserves attention to both taste and nutritional composition.

The Food Critic's Philosophy

Deepak believes that healthy eating should become a sustainable lifestyle rather than a temporary diet.

His approach is simple:

Healthy food must taste good. Good food must make nutritional sense. And eating well should be something people genuinely enjoy.

Through his Food Critic Series, he aims to explore the Satvik Salad menu, share honest food experiences and encourage people to make more informed everyday food choices.

Beyond the Plate

Deepak's association with Satvik Salad reflects a larger vision: connecting sports, nutrition, longevity and mindful eating.

As an Ironman finisher and Super Randonneur, he understands the importance of consistency and discipline. As a food critic, he brings those same values to the way he evaluates food.
